Great picture, though that oar doesn't look very secure to me. How sad that it has to be protected though.

I think the oars are chained, in part, to stop them falling down and floating away at high tide. I'm not sure they would exactly risk being stolen if unchained but I'm sure they would be great fun for children to play with and might sort of be wandered off with in the process.
