BLUE SHADED LAMPOST

By the time I set out for home,about an hour later, it was tipping down with rain!

Wait for it . . . this lampost is near the Fish Diseases Institute in Weymouth!

When the Fish Diseases Institute was built, the area around it got done up in a very 'modern' and stylish way - including the lamposts!

The Institute itself looks like the temple of a very wealthy but obscure cult - I've no idea why so much would have been spent on a government building. There are two huge obelisks either side of the wrought iron gates at the entrance. One has the names of fish engraved upon it. The other has the names of fish diseases!

I think there is an element of practicality about this lampost though, as well as style. I'll have to go back and check, but I think the arm is so the light illuminates the steps I have already put on the blog without obstructing either them or the narrow path at the top.

(It's surprising how often I come to realise that I didn't properly look at the context of what I've photographed!)
