Challenging or are they just sitting there before being moved to a more friendly soil?
Hello Joanne.
These are growing of their own accord in a rectangular hole at the foot of the promenade wall on Weymouth beach.
I don't know what these holes are for. Some still have metal gratings across them. Maybe water drains down from the pavement through them? Don't know.
I was astonished to see them there - and so lush - and in December. (I took the photo on the Sunday just gone.) Not only is the sand, presumeably, salty - on Sunday morning it was frozen too. It is the first time ever I have walked across what should be soft, dry sand and heard my footsteps ringing out! This is one tough clump of . . . do you know what it is? I think it should be taken as a symbol of resilience.

Love the textures
That's interesting that it's the textures you notice, Mo. The colours and tones were what drew me to this plant and its situation - that and surprise at seeing it there at all!

A Blythe Yule an a Guid Hogmanay! :)
Nature finds a way. Happy Christmas and kindest wishes for 2010. Your images are a stimulus and a solace. I took my best picture ever the other day - by mistake. 'My son's walked on ahead'

Hello Richard. Thanks for your greeting. I hope you too have peaceful and happy celebrations over the next few weeks.
I'll be celebrating Christmas - socks on the end of the bed and all!
