Sorry if it's dark on your screen. I'm not sure if that's because of your screen or because you're expecting to find more there than there is. There's a lot of black!
I'm not yet convinced that digital photography has arrived where it needs to be to do monochrome justice. That is sad in most ways but, in others, it prods one to find other things that it can do well.
Not sure what you mean by 'creative art' - but this really is a photo of a couple of bikes in a garden. Nothing was composed or constructed - it's just that I changed the exposure etc. on the computer after taking it.
I have a colour version of the same scene (which I will post soon) but I like this best. In fact, I like it so much I have it as my desk-top picture at present.
An inspired use of extreme contrast here, Lucy. Must have taken a lot of adjusting to get the spokes to come out just the way you had imagined. So different from the usual weekend fare. Refreshing for the eye!
Hello James. I was astonished when I read how recently you took up photography. I had assumed (because of its quality) that it had been a life-long devotion.
Happy Blogoversary - many happy returns and even more congratulations.
When I read your comment, I looked to see what I had done to create this effect. I generally make an abbreviated note of this as part of the name of the image. People can see this in the URL box if they click on the picture (or in the 'save as' box if they click on 'save image'). Thus 'cr' means it's cropped. 'Exp' means I altered the exposure on the computer etc..
The name of this indicates that I cropped it, did 'all sorts' of things, changed it to black and white - then re-cropped it. I think I lost track of what I was doing and gave up taking notes on this one!
When I post a colour version of this bike picture, it will be interesting to see what you make of it. People who comment seem to fall into two camps - those who like colour and those who prefer black and white. When I offer two images of the same thing (which isn't often) my favourite is nearly always the monochrome.

You have to start small :-)
Creative! Great image. I bit too dark on my screen.
And thanks for visiting!
Awesome one Lucy.
Works so well. This is where monochrome is so good.
an unusual pic. creative art?
Hello Rune - that's true of lots of things.
Lucy
Thanks Regina.

Oh Lucy :-) the picture made me think of the words: as father, as son :-) great my friend.
Hugs from Anne in Norway.
wonderful, strong composition and a great conversion!
Hello Anne.
These bikes look very companionable, don't they?
Lucy
Thanks Mary.
It's lovely of you to be so enthusiastic.
Lucy
What an interesting collection of wheels. Looks like a drawing.
Very creative selection of subject. I love the way you see the details of the world, and how you compose them into eye-opening images.
Hello Carver.
Spokes so often look like pencil lines. And there's always something cartoon-like about a bike.
Lucy
Thanks My Maracas.
Spending so much time looking through a lens makes everything about the world seem different, whether the lens is there or not.

Love this!
I'm humbled by your very nice comment. Thanks Lucy. I really enjoy your unique photographic perspectives. It's great to be able to learn from others.

Brava!!
Neat shot Lucy. I like the dark treatment and the contrast. New way of seeing a road bike for sure.
Some things just go well in dark tones and I think bikes and wheels
always seem more striking in
monochrome.
I like it !!
Hello Pat.
Glad you like the bike wheels.

Thanks Aware Writer.
Bikes are nearly always so wonderfully shaped, they hardly ever fail to offer a new angle, however many times we take photos of them.

This looks so very dramatic in monochrome doesn't it?
Hello Acornmoon.
That's one of the brilliant things about monochrome - the perfectly ordinary can be filled with drama.
By the way, I've been wondering if you are on Twitter. Am following Moonhare and would follow you too if I could find you!
Lucy
I like the contrast you have got with this one.
Thanks, John.
Lucy
great mono...
No wonder the speed is different with such difference in wheel size. Good contrasts.
