Hello Johnny Nutcase and Mo. Sorry to take so long before replying - the time of year is making me even les efficient than usual.

Fennel does smell good, doesn't it? But I think I like the look of it even better. It wasn't until I moved to the South Coast of England that I came across it growing wild. Fish - I find fennel a bit strong with fish. There's another herb that tastes similar but the flavour is less powerful - you use the leaves, not the root. Bother . . . I wish I could remember its name.

Have a very Happy New Year, both of you.

Lucy
