Great shot Lucy, but rather sad to see such neglect. I'll look into your video idea when I get a chance. I'm opening (as manager, not celebrity though we do have one on hand) a new exhibition today.

It would be fantastic if you came up with a video solution, Hermes!

The derelict house - given its situation (right in the middle of Dorchester) - I suspect planning issues might be behind its neglect . . . or perhaps disputed ownership. It certainly isn't in a place people wouldn't want to live.

Best wishes for the exhibition opening. (Hope it stops raining for it - assuming you are having roughly the same weather as we are.)

What is the exhibition of?

Who will your celebrity be?

Do hope it goes well!

Thanks Lucy. Part of what I do is to run the local Heritage Centre and I have set up an exhibition on WWI cards and letters home + local war memorials. Our 'celebrity' is a well known local historian of the period who is coming in full uniform. Should be fun. And yes it is raining.

Hermes - You may have noticed I'm involved in a new blog The Third Column. It started only a couple of days ago and is finding its feet.

I'm wondering if you would like to contribute a very small (like about 100 words) article to it about your exhibition - with a picture if you have one?

I'm thinking The Third Column will have something of a flavour of this area - its current header is of the Westbury / Weymouth notice at Frome station.

If you'd like me to put something there, you could either email me at

picturesjustpictures@googlemail.com

or, better still, directly to

thethirdcolumn@googlemail.com

P.S. Because it started only a few days ago, its readership is currently low - don't expect an influx of visitors as a result . . . but everything has to start somewhere and there have already been readers arriving because of Skywatch.

Will do Lucy. Give me a day or two as I have to do a similar write up for the local paper anyway. I've just posted an interesting picture that came out of this morning on our local forum.

Nice and rather sad photo, although it has made the song 'Green Door' pop into my head.

Hello Happy Mouffetard.

I didn't know the green door song so I looked up the lyrics - they seem creepy to me . . . one is definitely on the outside - yet there's someone looking over my shoulder saying that when it's sung by Shakin Stevens it sounds jolly.

The atmosphere around this house suggests it could be very cosy and homely to live in.

At least it's not big enough to be turned into a car park!

Nie shot Lucy, places like this have a story. Wonder what this one is?

Great picture Lucy! I am fascinated by the green overtones to it. Lovely.

Hello Janet.

I don't suppose I'll ever find out how the house came to be as it is - but I will certainly watch out to see what it will become.

Hi Mo.

This side of the house is north facing. There's a small stretch of grass (which I was standing on to take the photo) between it and an avenue of trees which runs along beside it. Hence the greeny atmosphere.

When I first saw this picture, I too was struck by the odd light - then realised that it is pretty accurately what the light was like on that dull end-of-the-afternoon.

Hi Lucy,
I love that photo! It makes me wonder what it looked like inside and out when it was first built.

Hello Sue - Sometimes, I wish I could grow a few criminal tendencies. That way I might have the nerve to break in with a camera and take a look!
