Ivy can be a bit overbearing and, in the hedgerows, it sometimes obscures other plants. At the same time, I appreciate the way it keeps great swathes of things green throughout the winter - and that can be very cheerful.
It is only since I have lived where I do know that I have realised why there are Christmas Carols like 'Oh, The Holly and the Ivy'. Not only are there the flowers - but the berries last all winter. These are the remants. Maybe they aren't tasty for birds, that they are still there? I don't know. But they are good for humans to look at!

Hello Robert.

Gordon, you must live in a very contemplative way . . . what with reading water and watching for berries to move.
