I agree Lucy - willows that big? I usually see willows either weeping or edging some pond or stream, sending out lots of shoots, bearing pussy-feet in Spring and turning orange over winter. Still - if James says it is a willow I'm sure it is.
I used to live where cricket bat willows were grown - and they looked like small poplars.
I knew willows can grow big - it's just that I don't come across them often so, although I was almost certain, I was reticent about saying so 'for definite'.
A little while back, I happily labled an agave as an aloe.
(And was glad when Jenn at Garden Djinn sorted me out!)

There are different kinds of willows.
This one is not of the weeping kind (!).
