Sometimes I find that place almost overwhelmingly impressive.
But, although the landscape is stark, the atmosphere is never lonely - even when it is comletely empty of people.
I took it on the stretch between the Weymouth / Portland Causeway and Chesil Beach - where The Fleet used to run until it was diverted into Portland Harbour at Ferrybridge.
When you say it 'evokes happy memories' - is this because you know the place or somewhere like it?
By the way, thank you too for being the first person to leave a message on this new blog!
No - not specific happy memories (although SomeBeans does come from that area). It just reminded me of playing in similar impressive landscapes whilst on holiday as a child. Freedom, and the smell of the sea. What more could a child ask for?
The photos on your new blog are lovely. Individual and thought provoking.
The coastline along here is quite tremendous and varies between the stark (as in this picture) the dramatic (Purbeck and Portland) the traditional English Seaside (Weymouth) and the picnics- rockpools-and-Famous-Five kind.

I like that photo - it evokes happy memories, which is the nicest thing a photograph can do.
Thank you.
